Your physician has requested certain tests be performed on a timed urine specimen, specifically a 24-hour urine collection. The accuracy of this test if directly related to the accuracy of the urine collection process. Please eat and drink as usual during the collection period unless otherwise instructed by your physician. No alcoholic beverages should be consumed during this period.
1. On the morning when you begin the collection of your urine, urinate as usual. Note the time of your urination. This is the starting time for your collection.
2. The urine sample must be refrigerated during the test period. Simple precautions such as placing the container in a plastic bag and keeping it tightly closed when not in use should be sufficient to protect your refrigerator.
3. Add the next morning’s urination to the total sample collected and return the container to Avalon Medical Laboratory.
Collection containers provided by Avalon Medical Laboratory.
Note: If there is not enough room in the single container provided, then any clean, plastic container can be used to finish the collection.
